Can't go? What to do with your ticket

Short answer: first check whether the original seller offers refunds or an authorised exchange. If not, you can transfer the ticket to a friend, or resell it at or below what you paid on a protected resale marketplace. On SpareSpot, listing is free and you're paid out 48–72 hours after the event. Your payment is processed securely via Stripe.

Option 1: Check for a refund

Most tickets aren't refundable just because you can't go. But check your confirmation email and the seller's terms. Some offer refund protection you may have bought at checkout. If the event is cancelled, you're normally entitled to a refund of the ticket price.

Option 2: Use an authorised exchange

Some ticket providers and venues run their own resale or exchange (for example, club ticket exchanges for football). These are usually capped at the original price.

Option 3: Transfer it to a friend

If the ticket is in an app, use the provider's transfer button. Some events require the attendee's name to match the ticket, so check before you hand it over.

Option 4: Resell it safely

If none of the above works, resell it:

  • Price it at or below what you paid.
  • Use a marketplace that takes payment before you transfer anything.
  • Transfer through the ticket provider's own transfer method once it sells.
  • Never accept a bank transfer from a stranger on social media.

Not just gig tickets

Plans change for more than gigs. On SpareSpot people also pass on theatre seats, comedy nights, restaurant bookings, five-a-side spots and hospitality places, so a booking that can't be refunded doesn't go to waste.

FAQ

Can I get a refund if I can't go to a concert? Usually not, unless the seller's terms or a refund protection add-on allow it. If the event itself is cancelled, you're normally entitled to a refund.

Can I give my ticket to someone else? Usually yes, through the ticket provider's transfer feature. Some events require ID that matches the name on the ticket.

How do I sell a ticket I can't use? List it on a protected resale marketplace at or below what you paid, and transfer it through the ticket provider after it sells. On SpareSpot, listing is free.

Can I resell a football ticket I can't use? Only through the club's authorised exchange. Unauthorised resale of designated football match tickets is an offence, and SpareSpot doesn't allow fans to list them.

How quickly will I get paid? On SpareSpot, paid out 48–72 hours after the event. Your payment is processed securely via Stripe.
