SpareSpot is a resale marketplace and is not the primary provider of tickets or spots. Prices are set by sellers and may be higher or lower than the original face value.

1. Introduction

SpareSpot operates an online peer-to-peer marketplace for buying and selling spare spots at social events, available to users in the United Kingdom and the European countries listed on our website. This policy explains how we handle your personal data in line with the UK GDPR and, for users in the EU/EEA, the EU GDPR.

2. Data controller

The data controller responsible for your personal data is Spare Spot Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (Company No. 17278329), with its registered office at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. We act as controller under the UK GDPR and, in respect of users in the EU/EEA, under the EU GDPR. You can contact us about data protection at privacy@sparespot.co.uk.

3. Data we collect

Account details (name, email), profile information, location and country preferences, listing and booking activity, messages, device and push notification identifiers, and payment information processed securely via our payment provider. We do not store full card details.

4. How we use your data and our legal bases

We process your data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract — to create and operate your account, list spots, process bookings and payments, deliver booking protection, and enable messaging between buyers and sellers.
  • Legal obligation — to meet accounting, tax, fraud prevention and consumer protection requirements.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the platform safe and secure, prevent fraud and abuse, improve the service, and provide customer support, balanced against your rights.
  • Consent — for optional marketing emails, push notifications and non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.

5. Payments and currency

Payments are processed by Stripe in the currency of the listing. The listing price is paid to the seller and SpareSpot retains a booking protection fee. Funds are held securely until after the event date has passed.

6. Sharing and processors

We share limited data with service providers who process it on our behalf, including Supabase (database, authentication and storage hosting), Stripe (payments and payouts), Resend (transactional email) and OneSignal (push notifications). We never sell your personal data.

7. International transfers

Your data is hosted and processed by processors including Supabase and Stripe, which may process personal data outside your country of residence, including outside the UK and the EEA. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as UK and EU Standard Contractual Clauses (with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum where relevant) or an applicable adequacy decision. You can request details of the safeguards used by emailing privacy@sparespot.co.uk.

8. Data retention

We keep account and transaction data for as long as your account is active and for as long afterwards as needed to meet legal, tax, accounting and fraud prevention obligations. You can delete your account at any time from in-app account settings.

9. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a portable copy of your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Contact privacy@sparespot.co.uk for requests.

10. Complaints

If you are in the UK you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. If you are in the EU/EEA you may complain to the data protection supervisory authority in your country of residence, place of work or place of the alleged infringement, as well as contacting us directly. We would always encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue.
